I just got a new PC running windows vista premium. It's got a TV tuner, that works very well at recording my favorite TV shows through Windows Media Center, but, I guess I'm hard to please and was wondering if there's a program that could record them without the commercials? Just had to ask.

Define commercials. I personally await a more powerful commercial removing software.

TV and movies have become (or always was) vehicles to deliver product placement.

Most annoyingly now is the habit of running animated advertisements along the bottom third of the screen. Currently these animated adverts are for other shows but soon for they will surely be for erectile dysfunction products etcetera.

I wonder if anyone has stopped to consider that such animated commercials which run in what traditionally has be referred to as the "crawl" are diluting the effectiveness of any civil defense or emergency messages that might inform the public of approaching hurricanes, chemical accidents ect. I do not favor government regulation but geez. Commercials throughout the entire show?

    Not meaning to hijack.
Mods if my take on what are "commercials" please split the thread to a new topic.

Thanks dlb, Myth tv looks GREAT, and seems to be just what I was looking for (free;)) but it may be beyond my capabilities to install and setup. I dl'd it but I'm too tired to try to install it tonight, and as I said, I'm not sure I understand how.:confused
Anybody know of another like it that's a simple install?

Well, it's a new day, and I just realized that Myth TV is for Linux and Mac, not windows, so that's out. It answered another question for me though, after reading the install instructions, I now know I'm not ready for Linux!:D

 Sorry, my bad. I'll look for a Windows compatible program for you... If you checked the other link I posted, I know it works with Windows.... It has a free trial period so you can at least test it and see if it's what you need.

EDIT- take a look at this stuff...
    http://winmyth.sourceforge.net/
    http://mythtvnews.com/2007/12/05/full-mythtv-frontend-for-windows/
So it looks like MythTV for Windows is available with scaled back functionality, but it's a work in progress.

    EDIT- look at this:

And download it from here: http://www.majorgeeks.com/MediaPortal_d4543.html (yes, it's FREE! ;) )

Well, that's a good suggestion, but after buying a new PC and with the Christmas bills, I know I'm not willing to pay for it, and if I use it and like it, I might be tempted. You may think I'm cheap,-----------------------and you're right.
