Brand-Name Recovery Disks often have Manufacturer & Model Numbers embedded so a set of HP Recoveries may not work on a Toshiba, Dell, Sony, etc, and vice versa.

Or maybe it will. The only certain way is to try. Undoubtedly, there can be a loss of SATA Drivers on older computers - XP can load IDE drivers automatically, but typically don't have any (or only one very particular) SATA Driver for its installation.

Next, you'd probably have the generic VGA driver-only, and you may not have any LAN drivers installed, nor Multimedia drivers.

Those should be available for download and installs from the correct manufacturer's (Toshiba, in this case) website.

IF the Win installation doesn't fail because of some Vendor Code immediately, then it might be OK.

Please notice that I've notice mentioned legality... there's a reason for that missing subject matter.

Hurdle #2 will be that SATA Driver installation, which is the "Press F6 for installing additional drivers" during the opening moments of Win Installs.

If you get past that, then you'll have to install Toshiba video, LAN and multimedia drivers, downloading those from your precise model's support website.

Good! Then Hurdle #1 (a manufacturer's hard-coded model entries) shouldn't be an issue.

So then can i trasfer my recovery partition to an external hard drive and install it to my toshiba from there?
