I'd like to try to upgrade the processor from a 1.60 MHz to a 2.66MHz on a Dell Inspiron 8600. From what I know about making a desktop before, I put a Pentium 4 2.40 MHz onto the motherboard, attached a fan module, plugged it in and kept going. Now, on this notebook, is it possible to do the same thing? Or, is the processor built into the motherboard? And would I have to research the motherboard's capabilities to handle the upgrade? Any help is appreciated, thanks, BGW

NEVERMIND.............. Decided against it. Not worth the trouble. The mobo only will handle up to 2.0 or 2.1 GHz and for the trouble and money involved, it wouldn't be worth the trouble. Thanks anyway.
