most laptops do have the right setup to use a TV as a monitor.

you need to look at the back of your laptop and see what kind of connections you have. some laptops will actually have a component video out that you can just plug into the TV, others have svideo out, and others have a ViVO conneciton, which looks like s-video, but requires a special 'dongle' cable that splits the ViVO into either s-video or composite video (yellow plug).

i wouldnt think you could use it WELL as a minitor though, as TV's have far less resolution than any monitor, but the TV would work well for movies or powerpoint presentations.

my sister recently got a laptop and it came with a scart to rgp adaptor, i it's rgp yes??
see if you can get hold of one of those and then a scart cable and flick through your AVs on the tv and it should appear.

I'm not sure if Canada even has SCART, as the US does not. as far as I know, it is strictly the UK and some of Europe.

depending on what input the TV you want to use has, you will need the matching adapter.

My desktop ViVO's to s-video in and out, or s-video in and compnent video out (yellow plug) which goes right into the TV's A/V input.
