Hi Guy's I would really appreciate some help with this one.
I can sign on but the browser will not load or run the connection icon does not light up at all.
I have Netscape, Firefox and Explorer - same problem with them all.
    OS Win 98se
When I scanned with Ad-Aware it found Alexa, same with Spybot.
    deleted them but still nothing.
Sadly I did not get round to loading Hi-jack this or spywareblaster,.
Would really appreciate some help ~ please.

You can sign on..... to what? Windows? The internet?

How do you connect to the internet? DSL? Dial-up?

Do you connect through a router?

Sorry Mada_Milty, I can log on to Windows and the internet.
I have 56k internal modem via dial-up and no router.
Thanks for the speedy reply, appreciated.

Alright...let's verify connectivity. Here's how we do it:

    1. Connect to the internet
    2. Open a command prompt (On the Start Menu under Accessories, IIRC)
    3. Type 'ping 4.2.2.2' (without the quotes)
    4. Press enter

This command will verify that you really are connected to the internet (you say the connection icon doesn't light up, which says you are not). If you receive replies, then we are on the internet, and communicating with Verizon's DNS server. We will then have to troubleshoot your browsers. If not, then we will have to troubleshoot your connection before moving on to the browsers.

    Regards,

    Milty

Alright...that's good. We are definitely on the internet. Do you have any firewalls installed? This might be the reason your browsers can't get online. If you do, please tell us which firewall and version you have installed.

Also, have you tried un/reinstalling any of your browsers? If you were to follow the instructions in this link you could back up your firefox profile, and not lose any of your settings when you re-installed.

Yes I have Panda Antivirus Platignum installed.
I have not tried to uninstall/re-install browsers as I cannot get browsers to work, might this be an option with BT/Yahoo browser who are my ISP ?
Really appreciate your response. Thank you :)

No. Reinstalling your browsers (unless using a browser supplied by the ISP, then it is a possibility - Netscape, IE, and Firefox do NOT fall in this category) will not affect your internet connection. That is defined in windows, and the browsers are separate.

Maybe we should look at your firewall first, though...could be that your browsers have been accidentally blocked. Can you open an 'Application' or 'Program' list in the firewall's GUI?
