Can my friend share Broadband?

hi guys,

i havent got a straight answer from anyone yet but this is a pretty stupid question.

my friend doesn;t have internet at all, i have a broadband connection. is there a way to get my friend to have access at her house by having a adsl router and logging on with my username an password? or does she have to ring up the internet company and get her line activated?

please let me know guys!

No ( or not as far as I understand it ) can you share DSL over a distance, now if she was next door and you could either run a ethernet cable or use wireless then yes she could share your net connection as she would be connected to your router, but as I know ADSL works in the UK ( dunno about other countries ISP ) it checks the phone number you are connecting from against the one it has in its database, so you couldnt use if off a different phoneline/number.

She would have to pay for her own connection.

You could setup a wireless router and have them piggy-back that way. Keep in mind that wireless can be flakey at times, especially at the house next door if it's far enough away.

There is a way to modify your wireless router to boost the signal some 300+ feet (probably more) which involved making the antenae longer and surrounding the antenae in a coffee can sort of thing.... Worked for my neighbor, ill try to find the site..
