My ASUS laptop's dc plug is broken. See pic below.

Is it possible the plug body can be temporarily repaired by opening it somehow and re soldering the broken connection?

Can a replacement plug be purchased?
    Thanks for your help.

For continued electrical safety and computer reliability it may be better to order a new AC adapter.

Sadly, there is no industry standard for those plugs. For example, not all use a 5.5 x 2.1mm connector. So as Eldon correct emphasizes, you must ensure the replacement is the correct size.

You can, if careful, cut through the molded plastic and repair that connector. Being molded plastic, the only way in is to cut it with an x-acto knife and hope you don't do further damage in the process. But that should definitely be considered a very short-term, temporary solution to hold you over until a new connector is received and replaced.

Typically the center pin is the positive (+) connection, but I would verify with a meter before and after the repair.

I have a similar power cord. In short I wrapped it up tight with electrical tape and then built that up with gorilla tape to make an un-bendable connection. It seems to work okay but I would take the above advice and purchase a new one.
