Stupid question maybe but I'm no expert, just wondering I have an MSI MS-6533 motherboard and in the manual it says that it 'supports up to 2.66GHz' Pentium 4 processor (socket 478) (I have a 2.66 Pentium 4 fitted), I am just wondering if I can fit a larger processor into that motherboard such as 3.00 GHz or more would that cause any problems, would it be unstable, overheat, would it be dangerous?

    THANKS FOR YOUR TIME!

I had a similar board, 400FSB don't remember what the specs on the processors it would take were. Anyway, I was running a 1.7 P-4 in it and it ran great. I fried a MOBO in another computer that had a 2.53 in it with a 533 FSB. I said what the hey and put it in there, it ran at 1.9 with the 400 FSB. I then over clocked it untill I got up to the 2.53 rating of the chip, it ran fine but comparitivly speaking it ran slow. It wouldn't be worth buying a chip that wasn't compatable with your board.
