Can no longer boot OS after fixing mbr

I was suffering from some rather resilient malware or virus and was being guided through steps on how to remove it in the malware forum. It was decided that my mbr was likely infected. Thus I burned a copy of the windows 7 recovery disk. Set my boot priority to my dvd drive and booted the disk, ran command prompt and entered bootrec.exe/fixmbr and it said it did so. However after switching back the boot priorities I only get a quick blue screen which flashes so quickly I cannot read it and am asked whether I want to boot windows normally or run a start up repair.

Start up repair unfortunately simply says it cannot fix this problem and asks me to shut down. I boot the recovery disk again and ran bootrec.exe/scanos and it reported finding no installations of windows. So I'm guessing all my data and the os is still on the hardrive but whatever kickstarts it is missing and how I recovery that I have no idea. At this point I was directed to here.

This is on an Asus G73w 205 laptop. If it helps here is my previous thread with logs from scanners and the website I got the iso for the recovery disk from if that will help.

    I greatly appreciate any insight.

    Mostly this:

    • bcdedit /export C:\BCD_Backup
    • c:
    • cd boot
    • attrib bcd -s -h -r
    • ren c:\boot\bcd bcd.old
    • bootrec /RebuildBcd

Hi, can you tell me which blue screen error you are getting?

I know you said the screen flashes so fast that you can't see it.. so do the following to get it to stick:

    Reboot your PC
Start pressing F8 continuously after the initial ASUS splash screen.
    You should now be here:

From the list, go down to the one that says : Disable automatic restart on system failure
    Press ENTER

Your system will now attempt to boot, when and if you get a bluescreen, it will stick. Write down any and all technical information for us to review here

    Thanks

Sorry for the late reply. But the first solution seems to have solved both the issues and I can boot the system no problem now. Thank you very much!

I'll stand by just in case there are some checks that need to be done to make sure everything is in order.
