Can no longer send e-mail

    Hi:

I'm having a problem with my e-mail. Starting this past Monday, I could no longer send e-mails through my Outlook or my Outlook Express programs. I can receive e-mails and I can send through webmail. As I said, this just started this week. I have been back and forth with Microsoft all week and so far we haven't figured out the problem. Also, I have seven different accounts so it's not settings in the accounts.

I have done a system restore, uninstalled and reinstalled Outlook, checked all my settings, tried to ping to my SMTP port (which didn't work), tried to connect with a cable (I have wireless) and turned off my firewall and anti-virus programs. Nothing has worked.

There are two programs which I recently purchased and put on my computer. The first is an anti-virus program from Micro Trend. That was put on my computer on the 11th. If that's the problem, it took a week for it to begin messing things up. The second is a CA-42 cable driver so I could install Nokia PC Suite and hook my cell phone to my computer. I thought it was possibly this so I uninstalled it also. No luck!

Does anyone have any ideas? I saw a thread on a focus about Micro Trend and e-mails but it wasn't the error messages I am getting. My message says that the specified server was found but there was no response and to check my port and SSL information. Then there's a second error messages saying Outlook could not connect to my outgoing server and to verify my port and SSL information.

I know this is a lot of information but I wanted to tell you everything I'd tried so we wouldn't have to go through those again. Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

Check out my thread on http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=102960

Is this a similar error to what you get.

We solved it (with hints from MG) by deleting the current email address user info in OE and reloading it. A real PITA for a few hours, though. Bazza

Do you mean delete the email accounts? If so, I've already tried that also.

If not, what do you mean by "current email address user info?"

    Thanks.

Yep. Delete the current email info that you use in OE to receive and sent email, and reload a new one. We had to try it more than once and it suddenly came good after 5-6 hours of trying various combinations, of software, and theoretical solutions.

Do you get a similar error message to my initial thread #1 as per previous link quoted?
We were only operating in Outlook Express, not Outlook.

When I clicked on the thread link, it brought me back to my original post and your reply. I get two error messages, one saying the specified server was found but there was no response to the server, then it tells me to check my port and SSL information. The second error message (right below the first one) says Outlook could not connect to the outgoing mail server (SMTP) and the problem could be the server name or port.

I'm operating in Outlook and I've deleleted and reinstalled all my accounts but I'll try it again. I have seven accounts but if that might work, I'll try it.

That's not the message but hey, who cares? I've tried disabling scanning emails with my anti-virus but that didn't work. Ok, here goes. I'm going to delete all my accounts again and try to reinstall.

    Wish me luck!

P.S. Yes, I can see how this would become addictive. That's all I need is something else to mess with my ADD. LOL.

May I suggest that you post your error message in full, here.

Lots of really truly geeks, on this site, only too willing to help. Bazza

PS: Did you try closing down your firewall and Anti virus ( for a very short time, of course), to see if you can send/receive emails. Try sending an email to yourself. Baz

PPS: Logging off now after 3 hours on MG and it is approaching 7am. Brain is scrambled. Catch you tomorrow. Baz

Well, deleting my accounts and re-entering them didn't help either. Yes, I also tried closing my firewall and anti-virus. That didn't work either. Have a good evening. I'll post the full error messages here now for some other geek to check. Thanks for your input!

Error messages (The first one is from my trying to send test e-mail message. The second one is the error from Find Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)):

The specified server was found but there was no response from the server. Please verify that the port and SSL information is correct. To access these settings, close this dialog, then click More Settings and click on the Advanced tab.

Outlook could not connect to the outgoing mail server (SMTP). The problem could be the server name or port, or your server may not support SSL. Verify your port and SSL settings in More Settings under the Advanced Tab.

If anyone else has any suggestions, I'll try them. I really just have to believe it has something to do with either my new cable software for my cell phone or the PC-Cillin (Micro Trend) software. These were the only new things I've done lately.

    Thanks.

    Who is your ISP?

Perhaps they have changed their mail settings, and didn't notify you. I've had that happen to me, way back in the 90's, before. :)

I have three different ISPs so I'm sure they wouldn't have all changed at the same time. Comcast, addresses through GoDaddy and one from a client of mine.

    Thanks.

From the looks of things, it appears that you are trying to send via SSL. Which in my feeble mind is a rare thing to do.

If you were to go to outlook express. Then click on Tools, Account settings, then click the account that is having the issue, then click Properties, then click the ADVANCED tab.

What is your outgoing and incoming mail ports set at?

    Mine is: 25 and 110

Also, I do not have "This server requires an SSL connection" checked.

    Hi Theefool.

All of my accounts are affected. I can't send through any of them. I use Outlook and this just started Monday. Please see posts above.

All of my account settings are also at 25 and 110 and SSL connection is not checked.

I appreciate any insight you can give.

    Bazza:

Thanks so much for your input last night. Even though we haven't figured the problem out yet, you were very helpful with ideas.

    Thanks again.

You're welcome. I hope you soon solve your problem.
My friend's problem was nowhere as complex as yours but it was a real PITA.
Any ideas will at least allow you to rule out possible problems / solutions, one by one, and move on to the next idea. Bazza

    MASSIVE BUMP

I have recently built a laptop with Windows XP, Outlook 2003 - ive headed out to Syndey and none of my outgoing emails are working with this current thread explaining my exact scenario.

I looked at the windows firewall and it said off, but there are tabs for Exception, and Advanced which looks like some stuff may be affected by it.

I even ticked the SMTP service under the network connections in that advanced bit of the firewall.

Can anyone help me please im buggered if not!!!!!!
