Can Not Boot From CD

My sister sent me her Toshiba laptop, with viruses, to clean. I can not get it to boot from ANY CD, so that I can start cleaning it. I would like to use DBAN and start over clean, but can not get it, or any other cd to boot in this laptop. Any suggestions would be gratefully appreciated.

 

You don't say what model Toshiba it is but this is general for most toshiba laptops.
you just restart it then hit f12 to go to the boot sequence and select "boot from CD" if you are going to use the recovery cd you will have to back up all data first before doing the recovery process or you will loose all data on the laptop.

 

Many thanks for your response friend. It is the TOSHIBA Satellite A15-S157. I just tried that again. I can hear the cd spinning and the eye apparently working. It hangs at the boot window for several minutes then continues to boot into Windows. When Windows opens, there is a small warning window that states in part vwm.exe application error. While trying to navigate anywhere in the computer, that is the message I get when attempting to use any exe file. ?

 

vwm.exe application error is normally associated with Malware that has written a new background service.

Can you get it to boot in "safe mode" from the same boot menu that you had before ??

 

It will boot in "safe mode" but results are the same.

If you can boot in "safe mode with Internet" you can get to MGs malware section and clean it with help from the malware fighters.

Normally you will not be able to run all the cleaning aids but do as many as you can and post the results.

With this info I was able to manually weed out enough of the vwm.exe varmints and access a bootable cd. I used the dban data destruction program. Perhaps a bit of overkill, but by golly it's clean now! Many thanks for your guidance.
