Can not Defrag my C: drive

Hi,

I'm new to this message board, and I'm looking for some help from all you experts.
I went to run a long over due disc defrag on my C drive and I'm getting a strange error.
" The Scan has been canceled because an error occured in the file C:\ SHREDFILES1"

I ran a search for this file and did not find anything. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

First of all how about some specs what OS are you running,etc

 

Windows XP home.

I did try to defrag in safe mode and received the same error.

 

My guess is that you have a file shredding program and it backed them up to that file. It would also be hidden. Open windows explorer, tools, folder options, view. Then select
Show hidden files and folders. Then you can find it and delete it.

 

If that doesn't do it, try a scan disk.
