I try and open IE and it opens then automatically shuts down. It does not give any error boxes or anything. Just shuts down. I can use Firefox fine. But not IE, which I was told to uninstall and reinstall and that did nothing. Its still doing the same thing. What do I do now?

Pull up task manager and goto processes. Then launch IE.

Does the iexplore.exe process disappear when IE crashes?

Nope it is still in the processes

Go to Internet Options in the control panel. Go to the advanced tab and click both restore advanced settings and the reset tabs.

If that fails, I would try opening IE with no add-ons, under accessories and system tools from your start button.

Are your MS updates working, click on windows updates in the control panel, then check for updates.

I restored settings. I also tried opening with no add-ons... No luck. Oh and yeas MS is updating regularly.

Try opening a command prompt and type

    sfc /scannow

Note the space before the /

Are we sure this isn't malware?

Before going that route, open a command prompt and type

    sfc /scannow

    then reboot and try again.

Ok... did it again (sfc /scannow) Rebooted. Still opens, now it asks if I want to restore the old session, I have tried clicking yes and no then it closes instantly.

Here is something crazy to try.

Create a new user account, and then login with that account and try it again.

Just want to eliminate user profile corruption as a problem.

Ok. Just created a new account. Did not work there either.

    Hi

Try opening Windows in Safe Mode (F8 at boot and try Safe Mode with Networking, is IE OK) and BTW what Window version and Service Pack are you using?

What Security Applications do you have installed, please name all of them?

As mentioned have you checked for malware? best option below and let our malware experts see if you have malware or not.

o.k. so you basically know now you are dealing with most likely a system issue, or a malware issue.

I would honestly suggest at this point that you scan for malware, visa vi, goto that section and follow the instructors there.

Would you mind letting us know if it was malware, or just link to your topic over there? Sorry...it's Friday and I'm lazy.

Started with not being able to open IE

Not much in the way of malware so far, just bits and bobs.
