I can not seem to replace .exe's. I get the message that the file is in use. They are NOT and they do not show in task manager. If I delete the file first I can then copy the .exe's to the folder I want to. Does anybody know a fix for this ?

Can you give us a little more description of what you're trying to do? Is it Windows files you're trying to replace? What OS are you using? And FYI, just because a file doesn't show in TM doesn't mean that it's not in use by Windows or something else ;)

I'm running Windows 7 ultimate X64, I am the ONLY user and am administrator. I want to replace an .exe file of a portable program. If I delete the .exe first I can copy it over if I try to copy it over without deleting .exe I get an error that the file is in use. It's not in use as I can delete the file. I have tried with android commander and utorrent.

    Hi

If you boot into Safe Mode can you achieve what you need?

Not tried safe mode as just deleting the .exe works and is a fair bit quicker than booting into safe mode and back out.

It also happens sometimes when updating programs like this, when updating SmartDefrag

If I goto c:\program files (x86)\iobit\smart defrag 2\ and delete SDInit.exe and click retry it will install just fine.

It might be some kind of lag going on, what happens if you don't touch the buttons for say, 5 minutes and then click Retry?

You got it. If I just wait and click retry it works. Now to find out whats causing the lag. I'm not running a cutting edge system but with an E6600 running at 3ghz and 4GB ram and 2 1Tb Samsung F2's in raid, I thought I should be ok ;)

Right, now there might be some BIOS/RAID/Firmware bugs causing this - take care, I hope you have a full backup of any and all vital data, 'cos working this out might be tricky!

Research well, don't jump in with the first update or fix you find.

Study the background info on what any recent BIOS update for your 'board is supposed to fix.

    Same for RAID drivers ...

And, especially, firmware updates for the F2's.
