    Hi,

I am using Toshiba Laptop - Portege M100, Intel Celeron, MS Window XP Profesional.

My problem is somehow I can not use the laptop keyboard to type anyhting. Execept than that everything works well.

When entering the window interface there is an Isntall Shield's window came up with these sentence:

    Command line parameter:
    /L Languange ID
/S Hide initalization dialog. For silent mode use: /S
    /v/qn.
    /V parameters to MsiExec.exe
    /UA <url to InstMsiA.exe>
    /UW <url to InstMsiW.exe>
    /UM <url to msi package>

    Then button OK

I already scanned my laptop with Norton Antivrus (virus definition updated already) but showed no virus.

Is it a hardware problem or software problem? Maybe there is something wrong with my windows XP?

Thank you very much for your help.

    Regards,

    Wawan

Two suggestions .....try attaching a usb keyboard and see if that works and allows you into the system to check the onboard properties ....
and second ...it may be that the ribbon attaching the keyboard to the mobo has jarred loose ...which means a dismantle to check and reattach....toshiba's are not easy to work on ...but there are tutorials if you need.

yeah i had a problem with my mouse once, and it turned out to be the ribbon from the mouse to the motherboard was unplugged. but it was too late by then , because my laptop died from overheating.

if u do need to open it up, look for manuals, but theres usually a little strip above your keyboard that clips off and the screws under it usually allow you to remove the keyboard. just be careful when doing so because it is attached with a fragile ribbon and you dont want to tear it!

    Dear Tim W and Pimped,

    Thanks for your suggestions.

I already check the keyboard's ribbon connection to the mainboard. It looked well attached. But the problem still persist.

The strange thing is the keyboard does work after I let the laptop On for 10 minutes. Before that the windows always said that it detects the ctrl button is being hold down.

Do you have any further suggestion? Thank U.

Try this ...won't hurt ....go to device manager ...click the + sign next to the keyboard and uninstall the keyboard ...reboot.

Hold down the Fn key, tap the CTRL key down, and then release Fn.
