Can one get 3G on a standard computer?

    Is it possible to get 3G on a standard laptop/netbook/notebook that is wi-fi enabled? I can get data anywhere (nearly) on my phone yet I have to find a hotspot for wi-fi coverage when using a computer. Is there any device/software that allows one to get 3G anywhere they are?

    Most cell carriers offer wifi hotspots.
