Can only boot in Safe mode

so out of nowhere my computer crashes and I get this blue screen:

Now I can't reboot without seeing that screen. Well, as the title of the thread states, I can only boot in safe mode. Repairing with the original xp disc doesn't seem to be an option b/c after I install the "3rd party raid driver" I don't get the option to repair. I reinstalled windows on the same disc without formating -- that version runs fine. I still can't load my original setup outside of safe mode. The most recent change I made was installing a dvd burner -- but have rebooted many times since installing it along with its most up to date drivers. The ram appears to be working fine also. I am stuck and was hoping somebody here can help!

I'm running :

AMD xp-3200 cpu 400 fsb
ASUS A7N8X-E deluxe
1.5 gb ram
200gb maxtor sata hd

My guess would be a device driver (USB). Update the driver for that device (by update, I don't necessarily mean installing a newer driver, but any driver with which your computer likes, even if it's a much older version). Be sure to check other Devices using the procedure below, USBPORT.SYS is mentioned in the BSOD your getting, but check others as well.

1. Right click "My Computer" and select "Properties"
2. Select the "Hardware" tab and click the "Device Manager" button.
3. In the Device Manager, select the device that you think that filename might be pointing to (in your case USB devices).
4. Right click the device and select "Properties".
5. In the Properties panel, select the "Driver" tab and click the "Driver Details" button.
6. In the new window, all the files that make up the driver for that device are shown. If you find the same filename that pops up on the BSOD, you have found the device that is causing you trouble and go from there.

I addressed the usb issue (atleast I think I have... I installed new drivers). So now the computer starts to boot up -- I see the xp screen and get all excited ... then boom:

any suggestions? I have a feeling I'm doomed to reformat and reinstall

 

Could be a memory issue, but you checked that.

I also read references to NVidia drivers being corrupted. If you have an Nvidia card, it's possible that this error is caused by bad drivers. Make sure you completely unisntall the old drivers and reinstall the new drivers (simply reinstalling might not fix the problem).

Update:

So I uninstalled my vid card drivers and boom! like magic it boots up!! I have an ati 9800xt. very weird - I haven't updated the drivers in ages. Thank you for your help!!
