can someone hack online gaming ?

can somebody access your computer while in an online game
If so what are some preventive measures to avoid this

 

oAnything is possible. Someone threaten you? I wouldn't worry about it, highly unlikely they can do anything to your PC. The servers you are connected to process your information, not his computer (provided we are talking dedicated servers like in Everquest or FFXI).

Measures to prevent?

Antivirus, firewall, router, um....stay off the internet

I'd actually like to know which online game you're referring to. Different online games operate slightly different (different configuration files, things like that). If someone did threaten you, my bet is that it was the admin of a server. They can be egotistical at times... acting high and mighty. I've noticed this a few times while playing some Half-Life mods.

the game is Vietcong and there have been alot of cheating \ wallhacks etc so now everyone thinks there are people scanning other peoples puters to identify these cheats

I have noticed some odd things just little gliches or what-not but in game a little box will appear for a sec than disappear than game will freeze
I guess what I am gettin at is these people believe anybody with skill must be cheating as how else could they have died 1st
and the ones with skill are targeted by these anti cheat police!

P.S. Dedicated servers can be made from any home computer although most will not handle alot of people and will lag terribly

 

Your definition and my defintion of dedicated servers are not in the same context.


For some reason, I figured you were referring to online services, not privately hosted games.

they do have real dedicated servers where you would purchase for X amount of people but this game allows you to create your own game and than an option to make it dedicated or not .

All they have to do is edit the packets going to your computer... It's simple really...

editing packets would do nothing, as the recieving application wont knwo what to do with the editedp akcets.
Tehy'd need to know what they are doing, unless the game itself has a built in trojan function, editign packets won't do anything useful.
To hack threw online gaming, is no diferent then a normal cracking. they got your IP, you need to have some kind of securirty vulns, adn they gota know how to exploit them.
