    Hey everyone,

If anyone could give me a hand i'll explain my situation.

I am always bogged with viruses and spyware that effect my connection, active-x controls and the like mostly denial of service attacks.

No matter how many times I format my hard drive I always get these problems and my virus scan (McCrappie) or any spyware removal programs they always return. I was informed that I could have problems with my Master Boot Record yet I have also used fdisk /mbr to try and repair it yet the problems still arise. I have also tried installing all anti-virus programs, spyware programs and service packs before installing my internet software yet as soon as I connect, I get errors. I'm wondering it its possible that the software itself that I'm using to install everything is infected.

I'm running Windows XP Pro and have a bell sypmatico dsl connection using an enet speedstreem modem and a standard enet card. I do download all MS updates yet it's too late, as I said earlier as soon as I'm connected bam, I get errors. McCrappie says that it can't clean the infected files it finds and Ad-aware 6 tells me it fixes the malware although they either return after the scan or Ad-aware 6 is just not removing them when it says it is.

It's just so frustrating that no matter how many times I try to fix this problem, they always return. I've called Bell Sympatico several times yet they do nothing for my situation, all attempts they've made have failed. Even when I install all my protection software before connecting I get errors when I do and MS updates do not help, that is when I can connect to the windows update site.

I have dns problems whether I use IE or Mozilla and I'm all out of things in my brain that I can do. As far as formating goes, I have even used a 98 start-up disk do use fdisk, delete my partition, create a new one and format it using FAT32 then format it again when installing XP Pro using NTFS.

I have thought about a reg cleaner but I'm not sure if it would help considering all other similar attempts have failed.

I don't expect much, but if someone out here can help I know it would be one of you...

Please feel free to e-mail me @ pyronauticle@sympatico.ca or pryonauticle@hotmail.com

    Thanks for the time,
    Pyronaut

Could you give more info then "I get errors". You could be having problems with Sasser or Blaster worm attacks. They can occur very quickly after connecting a new (or newly formatted) PC to the Internet. You need to get MS updates/patches on ASAP.

You should see: How to Protect yourself from malware!

You need to add a firewall, set Active X security, have virus and spyware protection/blocking all in place before connecting to the Internet.

    See:
    http://www.microsoft.com/security/incident/blast.mspx
    http://www.microsoft.com/security/incident/sasser.mspx
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;841720

Also, Ad-aware 6 is out of date.

Also for fixing/removing problems, please follow all the steps in this Sticky thread < READ ME FIRST BEFORE ASKING FOR SUPPORT: Basic Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal >

If you already have any of the programs linked in the tutorial please double check your version to make sure you have the latest one and that you have any/all updates for the programs.

NOTE: In order to resolve the issues you are having it is very important that you at least try to perform all the steps as outlined. If you have any difficulty please post back letting us know what steps you have completed, what you found while doing the scans if anything and details about any problems you have encountered in completing the steps. The more details you can provide the better.

What do you mean "a file installing itself into c:/srs/thxm8.reg"? c:/srs/thxm8.reg is a file. You cannot install into a file. You install into a folder (aka directory). thxm8.regis a file that is used to patch the registry. That is what the .reg stands for. I don't know who is putting it on your system. Do you know what software is in the c:/srs folder ? You could view the thxm8.reg file in notepad to see whats in it (just don't double click on the file from Windows Explorer).
