this doesnt make sense this is my old system...........
    3500 amd athlon 64bit
    2 gbs of ram dd400
    7800gt -same card im using-
    audigy ze
500 watt antec smart pwoer-same psu im using-

    now i have a
    intel duo 6400
    7800gt
1 gb of geil ram ddr800
and the same 500 watt psu

but when i play games i cant they dont last long,im at the point of bout to have a breakdown.i spent alot of money.Of course im not done but this rig should atleast play bf2 no probs at all.

these r the problems when i play Rainbow six vegas i see black kinda in the sky and then it goes black on the screen.i hear the sound and what not so i turn the heat thingy and nightvision on.I can play like that which i cant understand. then the game freezes, well i just thought it was the game but its lol so not.

i went to play bf2 and omfg i lag major no not net lag like i skip, and i hear like tanks and stuff...there isnt a tank around and i hear loud as day and the ppl voices r so light, all i hear is a loud tanks/truck noise and when arty goes off it sounds horrible.i barely get by on 1 game, then it locks up like rainbow six vegas so right now im thinkg what is wrong

the stuff im gonna buy r stuff like....ehhhh an 8800gts well 2 8800 gts cuz my motherboard runs 32x pci e so i get both cards powered.and a 1000 watt PSU.my whole idea is thinking this just might be the psu unit not giving enough power?im lost...im so lost i dont know what to do. cuz i had 3 hds hooked up,k.then my fans in the back didnt run even with the y connectors.so i unplugged the 2 harddrives and kept one.and the fans r running.im just wondering if the new duo cores suck alot of power or not.

EDIT i just cought the last bit of your post. from the sounds of it your PSU is not up to the task of running the stuff. What make is your PSU?

afew times i seen people spend alot of money on there PC's but buy a cheapo PSU that says 400, 500++ watts that really are nogood

can you tell me everything you got in your system even the stuff already listed like how many fans how big they are how many cd-roms, hard drives, pci cards etc, etc it may be just to much for your psu. or your psu maybe dieing you might try unhooking the things not needed and try it out and see how it does if it works thin your psu cant handle it.

like me i'm running 5 fans 3 80mm one with blue leds, one real small one with leds, and a 120mm, 1 light, 1 dvd-rom, 1 cd-rw, 2 hard drives, a 2.5ghz OC'ed to 3.0ghz P4 processor, 3 sticks of ram, one sound card, one network card, one modem, a Geforce 6800. on a 430watt Thermaltake PSU.

    okay...

2 80 mm in the back fans...2 80 mm in the fans in the front...1 stick of geil ddr2 ram ddr800,a 7800 gt,a raid controller in the pci slot,2 more empty pci slots,a intel duo, stock heatstink,1 hard drive,1 dvd rw, thats bout it...

i was reading the video card needs 450 watt of power but the thing is it was fine with the amd 3500 build.

I'm running a more power hungry system than you on a 470W Thermaltake PSU. I think you are fine with the Antec 500W. Firstly, I'd check to make sure you have the latest drivers for your video card and motherboard. As for your question about the Core 2 power consumption. Here's a link that went though and benchmarked the latest processors. http://www.tomshardware.com/2006/07/14/core2_duo_knocks_out_athlon_64/page3.html

now my 7800 gt eats up 450 watts, and its says on tom... im using 65 watts to power the cpu now im running out of watts for the hd and fans and roms can someone tell me more bout the 450 watts my card is using?

Your 7800GT isn't using 450W. The 450W requirement is basically there to make sure you have enough power for your entire system; graphics card, processor, drives, etc. On average, the 7800GT uses around 110W of power. I can confidently say that your Antec power supply meets your current power needs.

The blackness makes me think maybe your gpu is running a bit on the hot side (or the VRAM.) Make sure the temperatures are within reasonable ranges (I believe silicon chips are meant to function between -30 C and 80 C if I remember correctly)

i nail areound im at 52 c on core 1 and 50 c on core 2...then i go up to 62-65 on load.

Those temps are about average to a little above it. I don't think overheating is your problem. Have you tried reinstalling the latest drivers for your motherboard and graphics card?

have you tried running a stress test on your new rig? Doing so might narrow down the problem to either the gpu or something non graphics related, like a Cheeto in the cpu fan.

Also what video settings are you trying the game on?
