I was on icq and the puter started acting funny.
I started to reboot but before i could get there it crashed.
    see below.
    compaq 450 mghz
    win xp 256 megs ram.
    I have run panda, ad-aware-spybot.
icq does not work anymore, even after an uninstall and a reinstall.
it is taking my resources to 100%.
    Help please .

Little risky deleting files, so make a restore point.

    Boot into safe mode
    Delete the files in C:\Windows\Minidump\

This MAY be all you need, you can reboot here and see if your ok, but if it were me I would continue....

Delete all folders named WER2.tmp.dir00 under ALL users on your machine
Go to a DOS prompt and write "chkdsk /f" If it asks to scan on boot, do it again there.

Again, a reboot will be needed.

    MA
    I did as you suggested.
There were 3 64k files in mini dump.
    I deleted them.
I then went to all users and there was not a file named wer2.tmp.dir00.
I tried a search and turned up nothing.
The puter seems to be running as it should be.
Thanx for your time and advice.

Just out of curiosity I checked C:\Windows\Minidump\ and I have two .dmp files in there. No computer problems to speak of though.
    What are the .dmp files?
    Google wasn't any help.

    I am not sure.
MA will have to answer that.
But I found a ton of temp files under my sons user name.
Might be a place to store overflow ??
    I am not really sure.
My son has been a busy boy, there were 1,621 files and cookies.
I deleted them all and can not believe how good the computer is running.
Now i need to defrag and I think everything will be back to normal.
    MA thanx again.

Applications can produce user-mode minidump files, which contain a useful subset of the information contained in a crash dump file. Applications can create minidump files very quickly and efficiently. Because minidump files are small, they can be easily sent over the internet to technical support for the application.

A minidump file does not contain as much information as a full crash dump file, but it contains enough information to perform basic debugging operations. To read a minidump file, you must have the binaries and symbol files available for the debugger.

Microsoft® Office XP and Windows® XP create minidump files for the purpose of analyzing failures on customers' computers.
