Can someone help me

I have a friend that is need of some help, yet I can not give it to him. He bought a computer from Gateway, and had Windows ME on it. Then he got a virus and some other computer guy messed up Windows ME. So he put 98 as the new OS, but my friend hates 98 and it is really messed up. I was woundering if someone knew where I could find a new copy of Windows ME for free because his computer did not come with any disks. I guess that is what he gets for buying it from gateway, but I was woundering if anyone could help me with this problem.

Sadly you will not find any links to free versions of any OS on MajorGeeks.... what I would suggest is to goto computer shows or find a local retailer who has a good deal on ME or better still XP.

you can pick up OEM versions of MS software quite cheaply if you do some searching of online retailers.

If he has the product key to activate it (mine is on a sticker on the case) he might be able to get a copy of the ME disk from a local computer shop. Microsoft is not actually concerned about selling you the disc itself, they just want you to pay for the right to use their software.
I recommend XP if he doesn't have the ME activation key, it's much more stable.

Now as I have finally woken up from yesterdays celebrations I forgot a route you could take as its a Gateway PC

if it still has the serial number on the case then use Gateway support to try and get a replacement restore CD http://support.gateway.com/support/default.asp
