    Hi,
When I turned on my computer this morning I had yet another surprise from MSN. I have an additional toolbar (thingy)that I don't wont' and don't even like.:cry
This area has a star and next to it is a +sign next to another star.
I tried to go use the custom command bar options but there is nothing there for me to add or remove this.
I do believe it is some type of tab browsing, which I don't use and have turned off, unchecked, in my toolbar options.
When I click on the add and remove commands nothing happens. Nothing comes up.
At first i thought maybe this was malware, but I now don't believe this is the case.
Several months ago, somehow a huge search bar was downloaded on my toolbar that covers the entire top of the bar. I believe this happened right after an MSN update. :cry
Since I use Google and MSN search windows for my business all this extra junk is just that, Junk, making my top toolbar over 2"wide. :mad
Can anyone please tell me how to remove these to features?
I have tried 4 times to attach a screen shot of the page. I even tried to reduce the size in case this was the problem so now the page looks a little out of proportion .
If anyone would like to see this screenshot, I will need an email addy to send it to.
I am in my 60's and really don't know the technical stuff but I do find these added items very aggravating and confusing.
Any help at all would be so very appreciated.
    Thanks,

    Hi and welcome :)

You can post a screenshot by attaching it via MajorGeeks. Here is a guide on how to do so: http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=86880

Have you gone in to your Add/Remove Programs to see if it is listed as something that could possibly be uninstalled?

Hi Laura, Thanks for the fast reply.
I did find the area on attaching the files, but every time I tried it failed, even after i reduced the size of the file.
Yes I did go into add and remove in the control panel, but I see nothing there unusual, but must say with MSN being 3/4th's of the files there, I could have easily missed something. lol
I have tried the add and remove commands as well but when I click on this link absolutely nothing happens. Nothing comes up so I can see if there might be an option here I can use.
Regarding the large seach bar across the top of my toolbar, several months ago Dell tried to help me remove this by accessing my computer. They could not find a way to remove this area. However it was Dell and I am not real impressed with them ..lol
I am willing to try anything, and just hope that someone can help. These updates are not always necessary and really should not be forced down our throats. lol
    Thanks,
    Mary

Ok trying to attach the screen shot. I did use advanced quote before but Hopefully it will work this time. Ok even after reducing the size again, I still can not get this file to upload. I did the copy and paste into wordpad of the screen shot. Could this have been done differently?
In properties this is the size of the file after the second time I tried to reduce it in size. 4.61 MB (4,840,027 bytes)
    Thanks,

Don't worry about the quote button. Just click on Post Reply. Then click on the paper clip icon. Are you getting to the pop up screen where it asks you to browse for the file?

What error are you getting? Do you have a program that can save the file to jpeg?

Also, are you using MSN Explorer, or another browser?

XP or Vista (or something else?)

    Hi Laura,
I have windows xp media, AT&T Uverse service, IE 7.0. I have MSN and Google toolbars uploaded since I use both of these.
I am using the paper clip icon to attach the file.
I am also getting the window where it says to attach files,
I select the file that I have saved to the desktop, and then select upload.
I wait for the upload and the error message says is that "the upload failed."
I thought this might be due to the size of the file so I did reduce the file twice.
I guess can try to figure out how to copy and paste the screenshot into paint. I know I can save it from paint as a JPEG if I can just get the copy and paste to work.
I have never tried this before but who knows it just might work..lol

Ok I was able to do this and even circled the two areas I am talking about.
It seems to have uploaded this time. I do not have the errors message. Let me know if it did..lolI am really glad to know I can do this..
Thanks so very much for your help.clap

    Mary:
SORRY THE ATTACHMENT IS PRETTY BAD. MAYBE I CAN WORK WITH IT IN PAINT IF NEEDED TO MAKE THIS MORE CLEAR. JUST LET ME KNOW AND I WILL TRY TO CLEAR IT UP.

    lol...yay. :)

The bottom one is your tabbed browsing. To get rid of that:

Tools > Internet Options > 'General' tab > Under 'Tabs' click on Settings > Uncheck the top box that says Enable Tabbed Browsing > Click Ok > Click Ok > Restart Internet Explorer

I know you mentioned in your original post that you "I tried to go use the custom command bar options but there is nothing there for me to add or remove this.
I do believe it is some type of tab browsing, which I don't use and have turned off, unchecked, in my toolbar options." I'm not sure if you meant you did the instructions I gave you, but going into internet options is the way to rid your browser of the tabs.

The top is your url address bar. I am unaware of a way to not show that. Someone else may be able to give you advice on that.

Both of these are part of Internet Explorer and are not 3rd party toolbars.

You are welcome. Glad it worked out for you. :)

You may want to start a new thread here asking if anyone knows how to hide the url address bar in Internet Explorer.
