Can';t format 3tb hdd - GPT

Just installed a new 3tb hdd and if I right click in DevMgmt, it doesn't show format in GPT.

So, I've got 740 gb unallocated and can't seem to get the full space.

I used Minitool Partition wizard, but it won't do it.

Any suggestions?

 

Use Minitool from the CD (outside of Windows), delete all partitions on the drive leaving the entire drive unallocated, then format it to GPT.

 

That was the first thing I tried.

No choice on either Minitool or DevMgmt.

I'll contact WD , but I think MA is right and it's just defective.

I've not had this problem with 3tb HDDs before, so I know it's not the PC.

Also tried outside of windows.

 

I called WD and he had me run Diskpart and the drive is now correctly showing full space of 3tb.

I had tried to use it previously, but I guess incorrectly (for 1st time).
