How do I set up my two computers so both my son and I can play the same game (like MechWarriors) on the MS Game Zone using the same connection to the internet?

I have two computers set up on a simple home network. I'm using a DSL modem and D-Link Router. Two seperate games are set up on each computer and I can play On-Line, individually with each computer but cannot play both at the same time. I'm trying to set it up so we can both play in the same gameroom as teammates.

    Thanks for the help. Mack

P4 2.4 gig, 1 gig ram, Windows XP Home SP2.

I have this problem with other match making software also; i believe the fault is in the software they write themselves because its recieving the same masked ip out of both pcs so it wont accept both of them...or somthing to that idea.

Ya, there must be somthing wrong becuase you both should be able to play it at the same time and what not. Im not familiar with MechAssult but does it require some kind of cd key or somthing if so youll need to for both of you to be on at once. Sorry if this doesnt help much.

I am staff of an online game (I'm not sure if I'm allowed to promoted it although it is a free game and I get no $ for being staff), and typically finding 2 people with the same IP is a nono, It depends on the online game. Some do not mind others crack down on it.

I know you can play with one dsl line, but like spacedust said, you might not be able to for your game. So you might want to check with one of the staff for that game, or maybe an online faq section, to see if you can with that game.

Try using a Hub instead of a Router... you will need to pay for a second IP from you ISP is the only thing. I did it when my boys were living at home so we could fly together. The cost of a second IP here in Nova Scotia was about $10.00 Canadian... about $7.80 US but it was worth it.

I run a DSL and Linksys router and my son and I both can game online. Counterstrike, Enemy Territory, whatever... I'd go with the you need 2 installations of the software, because most game servers now days check & boot people who "share". So if you installed the SAME game on both - Bobs your Uncle. Yes there are also game server that block 'LAN' palyers - players from the same IP... because of the cheating factor. Can you both connect to a differenet server? Last some setting in the router is wrong, how did I set mine up? right out of the box very few tweaks, just ips, dhcp, no other changes and been gaming ever since.
