can you fix a corrupt file using a usb?

    i have turned on my computer and after 10-20 secounds it comes to a blue screen saying MPR.dll is corrupt. i would easily use a cd to fix it but this laptops cd/dvd drive is not working at all so i was wondering if somehow i could use a usb stick to fix the problem....

    Try this link. Scroll down to the last post and read the suggested course of action. But it requires the use of the CD drive. Have you tried booting to the F8 options menu and selecting "Last known good configuration"? Probably won't work but it's worth a try. You can also remove the hard drive from the laptop, plug it in to a healthy PC via a USB adapter or external housing, then copy mpr.dll from the healthy PC's system32 directory (normally C:\windows\system32) to the laptop hard drive; copy it in to the system32 directory on the laptop drive.

    Not having a functional CD drive on the laptop is REALLY going to DRASTICALLY limit your repair options.
