can you help a nubie??

    I am New to This so Please bear with me,
    I want to connect my Wifes computer and mine to the internet.
    Right now mine is connected with a modem to cable internet,
    her computer in almost the same set up as mine (differnt Mother board MSI nero pe 2) And memory is kingston still 1 gig tho.
    how do I go about this?? do I need a router? if so how do I use it?
    Do i need to let internet co. Know ?
    or can we share connection? it connection speed is 3098kbps down
    237kbps up. Just in case it matters.
    let me know if more info is needed

    all you got to do is go down to best buy or office depot or a place like that and pick up a router. take it home and run the cable modem to the WAN port, run the two computers to the pc out ports (thier numbers). make sure that the computers have network cards in them, and you will need to buy a second ehternet cable for the second computer. i just did it, so if you have any more questions let me know.

    if you have never manually configured a router before I would recommend buying a linksys Cable/DSL router. Don't unhook anything or hook the router up. Just take the CD that comes with it and put it in the computer connected to the internet and follow the instructions it gives you (pictures and all) And within a few minutes you will have yourself a broadband router. Then (assuming your wife's computer has an ethernet card) just get a Cat5e cable and run it from your wifes computer to your router. And then you are all set!
