System Requirements lab has been a very handy tool for a long time, but of late it seems to be very far off the mark.
I've always taken results with a pinch of salt but lately it's been .... wrong.

    It says my sons PC has a 1gb G-card, he has a 512mb 4850.
It's told me I don't have enough CPU to run Dragon Age, yet I run it near perfect maxed out.
It's told me Devil May Cry 4, Resident Evil 5, Gears of War are not compatible with Windows 7, they work just fine.

Anyone else seeing issues with SRL?

    Hi Ned

Think its more a rough guide to will it work more than anything. Think the data is taken from the original spec list so an older game say as in Gears of War was released around XP/Vista era, so will spec up for those OSs, so the Can You Run It database is only listing those OSs as compatible, forgetting that Win is released and will likely with hardware permitting play it fine.

Its a good site to just get a feel for if a game may work ok, its not accurate at all.

I don't use SRL at all. I use YouGamers, and their Game-o-meter has never failed me yet. It's based on VirtualMark, which in turn is based on 3DMark, and once again, they have always been very accurate for me. I ran their scanner on my PC, looked at the detailed and helpful results, and immediately dumped SLR, faster than I'd dump boyfriend who never showers. YouGamers' Game-o-meter is much more reliable. To verify, I went and ran it on several games that I have been playing with success on the PC I'm typing from, and it was accurate on each one of them.

So to answer your initial question, no, I'm not seeing any issues with SRL since I haven't used it in years. :p

@Halo... I see what you're saying and agree but my point is more that it's getting worse, not jst with the Win7 thing but many things on it are not just a little off, they're actually wrong, I dunno it worked for me for a long time but I wont be using it any more.

@Mimsy... Thanks for the link, will check that out, I've gone back to simply looking up specs and making my own decision on whether or not I can run it well. So it will be nice to get something new to try out.

It is really helpful, especially if you're not sure if your system can handle a game and want to verify before spending the money. I like how they show you the minimum, recommended, and optimized specs to compare your system too, so you can see where you stand, but my absolute favorite is where they spell out what the video card and CPU for each of those is, and then list my hardware for comparison. Makes it very easy to budget for upgrades, when someone spells out what I need. ;)

Cool, I will look into it in the morning, I'm vegged out in front of the TV now and if I try that on this laptop it might explode lol

I pretty much know what I can run but I like to see somewhat in depth info for the game which is something that is often hard to find. Also sounds like it's got a few extras to play with, I always like new stuff to fiddle with :-D

Sadly like many things on the net, once the initial hoohaa has doed down these things just die, lack of interest from the developers dont help and if they dont keep the DB upto date or account for new OSs then a scanner like this is useless.

Man how do you do it? You should have been a carpenter because you hit the nail on the head every time lol
Very good point and probably exactly the reason.

ya it did the same for me with Dragon Age. Said my video card didn't meet reccomended requirements but it far exceeds it.

How you liking that game so far? I beat it once and I plan on playing it through at least 2 more times so I can catch the different endings and storylines for each race. So far I haven't been sucked into a single player rpg like this since ff3

Yeah it's not bad at all, I've swung a little away from RPG's the last few days and back into shooters. I do that though, phases, I go hammer and tongs at a game for days and days and then suddenly don't feel like playing it, then come back to it a week later.
Just finishing up Orange box, thought I should since I never actually finished Ep:2 and figured I'd play them all.

ya the half-life series was awesome I beat em all :D

I am honestly a shooter guy first but I like to play rpg's in the morning if i have time or on a Sunday when I'm hungover :)

Just tried that site Mimsy, forgot all about it lol

It seems as though none of these sites like my PC, reckons I can't run MW2, which is a real bummer...... especially since I finished it weeks ago roflmao

    It says I have a 4890 64MB rolleyes

Man I guess I will just have to stick with reading specs and making my own conclusions.

I just ran YouGamers' scan on my new laptop, and they told me they were unable to identify my videocard properly. :( They also said they've created a log entry about that, and to check back in a few days. I'm going to give them a few days, and then report back here.

While I'm waiting I'm downloading 3DMark, since I really want to know what this shiny thing can do. :)

    New laptop? Birthday weapon? :-D

I got 3D Mark Vantage with my GFX card but havn't compared anything yet, I just ran it and that when I realised my sound was screwy so kind of left it and fixed my sound.
Damn puters are a headache lol

    Of course! :-D

The Game-o-meter had no idea what my Mobility Radeon HD5730 was, so it just called it "generic VGA". Made me chuckle. LOL

lol thats pretty funny, you got a 5730 in that thing?
Thats some piece of hardware you got there, wanna swap it for my uber super duper Acer Aspire Celeron 1.6? :-D
