Can you tweak IE to use less resources?

Is there a way to tweak IE in XP Professional to use less resources? I'm not having a major problem right now, I just wondered if there are certain tweaks to make it even better.

Right now, it uses 15,616 K of mem when it's running. I figure that's about as good as it gets, but I'm just curious.

I have an AMD Athlon Thunderbird 1.33 Processor, 2 40 gig Hard Drives, and 768 DDR RAM.

hey EC :) Are you runing CachemanXP? On the main panel (comes up when you double click the Cacheman icon in the start tray) there a panel similar to task manager. If you right click on any of the items in the display pane, cacheman gives you the option to reduce ram usage which will show as a lessening of resource usage(sort of). I use it every now and then to keep Spybot TeaTimer from getting delusions of grandeur. Might be a temporary fix anyhow. Ot you could use Slim Browser or MyIE2 for your browsing. They use a bunch less resources than IE6.

I actually want to use Avant, but it runs on IE.....do I have that right? I don't run Cacheman, but I can! Do you think I'm using alot of resources right now as it stands?

Avant is a resource hog.. it would eventually slow down to a crawl. I still say MyIE2 is the best overlay for IE.

Why is Avant a "Pick" then, in the Browser Pages? Just curious.

I'll probably run Cacheman, and try MyIE2 also.

How much does your IE use when you open up Task Manager?

Here's my Task Manager. I'm running Avant, and I can see you are right, it is hogging resources.

Yeah, Avant is another good one and it does use the IE shell for a basis. I reccommend CachemanXP on automatic, it just does such a good job of keeping unnecessary ram from stubborn-won't-let-go-of-what-I-got proggies freed up. No, your IE usage is not excessive at all. I just played with explorer with CMXP. It knocked down my explorer from 2,35megs to 1.2megs. Of course it starts rebuilding at once, but it's fun to watch IE get slapped down :)

Thanks Bill, Kodo. I've been given somethings to think about, and more stuff to mess with so I can ruin my computer and frustrate Cindy some more!! :D
I appreciate the info and help,
Gotta go outside with the kiddies.
    Have a Great Day!!

Different people like different things.. Avant is a good browser overlay in and of itself. If it didn't have that nasty side-effect, I would recommend it equally with MyIE2. Why is it a pick? well,it's not my decision to make that categorization.

    SlimBrowser doesn't use many either.
