Cannot access a partition on a WD external HD

I have a 2TB WD external HD that has two 1TB partitions. I can access one partition but cannot access the other one. When I click on it, I get cannot be recognised message and it temporarily crashes the OS which is XP.

If I put it on my other PC which runs OS 8 it totally freezes the whole system and I have to reboot.
I have quite a bit of data on it so would like to be able to access it.
Any ideas would be very welcome.

When you partitioned the drive, were drive letters assigned to both partitions? If you used a Linux based partitioning software, this didn't happen as Linux uses a different designation for drives.

No I used the windows XP to partition it. It gave it different letters. I am afraid I know nothing about linux.

 

Still cannot access the second partition but would like say that WD sent me a new PSU free when it went missing during a house move. Wish they could help with thus problem.
