i don't think this is maleware, i had just ran my scans today, but installed VLC media player to watch the Congressional hearing on the Fed audit.

During installation comodo made several pop-ups (which I expected), i put the firewall into install mode..when I ran VLC some other pop ups came up, which seemed like normal for running a program that was accessing the web for the first time on my system..

But just after that when I try to open several programs (a game, firefox, ect..) I get an error msg that says:

"windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."

I can not open the firewall from the running programs bar, but I can open AVG (oddly enough), so I am running an AVG scan on the system atm.

Any ideas on this? Did I set something wrong on comodo by accident?

just an update..think it was definitely something in comodo firewall pro that i did, my computer did not even give me permission to shut down lol

turned it off and started in safe mode, uninstalled the firewall and rebooted, now it is working fine

now i'm paranoid about reinstalling the firewall lol, does anyone have a clue as to what 'permission' i changed so i don't repeat it?? comodo is kind of confuesing in all of its options when popups appear, 'install mode' 'trusted application' (doesn't always appear as an option' 'windows program' ect ect..

    (ps..couldn't edit original post??)

    Hi

Is your Windows Version Vista? if so run the app as Administrator, which is right click the shortcut or exe and choose Run as Administrator.

However I not a great fan of Comodo, prefer to install on PCs I deal with PCTools Firewall

As for PS. edit timer is 15mins, yeah I know short but for a reason, as many members in the past changed their original post or replies to not make themselves look fools for posting wrong info, also made the folk posting afterwoods look as if they didnt read the original post or copied others posts, so warts and all the original post are here for all, so wise to make sure you double check before posting, personally like it this way, as no going back after a good google search to change a post!

ahh..makes since on the posting, just didn't want it to look like i was bumping

i'm using winXP, so i had to go to safe mode to log in as 'admin', otherwise it was not letting me do anything at all; couldn't open add/remove, couldn't open any executable, and couldn't access programs off the tray (except for avg).

whatever i did, it seems to be resolved by removing comodo :/
