Cannot access my second hard drive

Hi

Since arriving back home I found I had malware on my computer, so I followed advice given by MajorGeeks and have since removed the malware, however I have two hard drives (C & D) in my computer, drive D had been an old hard drive from my previous desktop, its still shown in my computer, but I cannot access it, a window pops up saying "please insert a disc in drive D, I've even tried going through admin tools/computer management and all it says about drive D is that there is no media, can someone please help, I have a lot of files on that drive which I need. I am running windows XP professional.

Why is your computer reading the drive as a disk drive? what comes up for that drive in device manager?

 

Could be that your second hard drive died.

I did think it might have died, if it has is there an easy way of finding out, without having to disconnect it and trying it somewhere else, also is there anyway of retrieving the data from it

Do not know why its reading as a disk drive and cannot see anything in device manager, come to think about it, I do not even see hard drives listed in device manager and I tried the hidden button to no avail.

Will give that link a try, however I should have mentioned in my first post, I've had this hard drive for some time in fact about 5 years and never had a problem, maybe it has died, I need to try and get the info off it somehow.
