Cannot Accesss Network Drive

I have a desktop PC which is running XP Home SP3, which has a network drive mapped. I have a laptop Running Win 7 with which I would like to access the files on the network drive with. I have joined the workgroup, and can see the drive under 'Network', but when I try to open the folders inside it tells me that 'Windows can't access the folder' and to contact the network administrator. I am pretty sure it's a permissions issue, but I am unable to add the laptop to the permissions list. In trying to add it I did this:

Right clicked on the drive
Selected properties
Went to the security tab
clicked Add User or Group

The list of users available to add were only the local users on the XP machine. Can anybody steer me in the right direction here? If I missed any details let me know. Thanks.

Start, run:

\\networkaddress\sharename


Run that, and see what happens.

networkaddress is probably an IP, and sharename is the name of the share.

 

Run it on the xp machine?

 

Yes, that is the machine trying to access the share, right?

 

No the xp machine is the one hosting the shared drive. I'm trying to connect the laptop running 7 to the one running xp.

 

Well, run it on the 7 machine then.
