Cannot Add More Memory

Hi everyone. My name is Tina. I just love your website, I have downloaded so many kewl things! I do have a problem and was hoping someone could
and would help me, if possible.

We have an older pc, 32 meg of ram, 233 speed, Win98 Mind you, this old pc is only till income tax time! Hubby has tried to add more ram, and pc is not accepting. He does not get an error message or anything. Matter of fact,
we have our original hard drive on here, 20GB & pc is only showing 6.60GB!
Any ideas on the ram situation? Thank you in advance for any help.

Is the ram the same make and speed? Need more details.

 

Most boards of that era could only handle 128MB of either EDO RAM, or SDRAM. Many boards had 4 slots to accomodate 4 sticks of 32MB EDO RAM, and 1 or 2 slots to accomodate SDRAM. You could use one type, or the other, but not both.

So, perhaps your boyfriend is trying to add the SDRAM, while keeping the EDO RAM in it's slot? Or perhaps he's trying to put in a larger stick (ie: 256MB) of SDRAM than the board can handle.

But yeah, more details like Prophets21 said would be nice.

 

The hard drive is a limit thing. There is a 3 gb limit on older boards. you could possible flash the bios and get it to recognize the rest of the drive but it depends on the system. Everyone else is right you would need a couple matching sticks PC 66 (I'm guessing) like 32mb.
