I have Dell 4600, 80 hard drive, 518 memory, with most of it available. When I first bought my Dell, I successfully burned cd's (I had the music discs and burned them onto blank discs). I have a Sony crx216e cd-rw drive, and a Samsung dvd drive. I have no other cd burning type of software installed, other than whatever came with my system. Do I need a special software to burn from my playlists and such onto a disc? I have tried 3 types of cd's (cd-r music, cd-r and cd-rw) in attempt to burn from my pc onto a blank...when I check out my cd rom properties, it says the disk is full. Everytime it either doesn't recognize there is a blank disc in the drive or says its full and to insert another one. Any suggestions? Thank you. :p

 Thank you. Downloaded Nero trial version...don't know what happened but never got to use it...said my trial expired...tried using it immediately after download...losing my mind  I have wiped down my drive and discs...tried various kinds of brand new discs...used Musicmatch and Windows Media Player...Tried renaming files (on Windows when I downloaded the music --from cdzInc., the files came up as asf. I believe...or asx.--cant remember...In Musicmatch, I redownloaded them and changed the file name to wav. Do I know what I'm doing? Of course not...thought I'd try though. No matter what the response is the same..."can't burn...please make sure the disc is clean or not damaged....or can't recognize file or codec...or please insert new disc...help.

Firmware is the software that is the BIOS of a hardware device. Typically the manufacturer of the CD-Burner will have instructions on how to update the firmware. Each product is different in the software used to update the firmware.

also what sometimes works is if you uninstall the drive in the device manager
and reboot and let it auto-detect it again.
    good luck.

Had you installed a trial version of Nero before in the past? but never used it and maybe uninstalled it? Now you installed it again, and the registry entries it leaves behind will tell the new install that the trial has expired because of the last install?

Also if you have trial software that expires and you need to say use it once more then just turn the date back on your PC to the time you were in your trial period.

Only do this ofcourse if you cannot get the orrigonal purchase for a few days and are in need of using the software till then..

Thank you. I've tried contacting Dell Support Live Chat...says they're "Busy"...for 2 days now..thought maybe they could walk me thru the firmware update. found sites for crx216e updates but strongly express its for advanced users and to have support walk you thru it. I'm capable...but not sure of myself to go it alone. Afraid of making the situation worse. In reply, no, i've never downloaded any Nero before...it was all new to me...Shall I still attempt to uninstall the drive and let it auto detect? Thanks again.

that would be the easiest thing to try first..
if you haven't already uninstalled Nero..please do so before you remove the drive.
