Do you have admin priviledges on that PC? What OS are you running? If it's XP Pro it could be something like a policy doing that. Also can you try in another user account?

Hey Valhallis! Thanks for responding. Awesome Avatar. Yes I do have admin. privileges. My OS is XP Home. I will try in other account. If not, could one of the last patches in OCT. be hampering my auto update. I work evenings so, talk to you latter.

Hey Valhallis! I tried in safe mode with the admin. account but, still can't get it to change. Radio buttons are grayed out still. Are there advanced options for admin. accounts,if so, how do you get to them.

Hmm, there aren't any advanced options in admin that would fix this. I don't think an update would cause this specific issue but, hey, it is M$ ;).

Is the computer on a network and part of a domain? Or is it a standalone system?

Hey Valhallis! Nope! all by myself.Actually I resolved my problem, let me explain.I was scouring the web forums,(Q's & A's ) when I came upon this page .. http://wiki.djlizard.net/Dial-a Fix . It had the tool Dial-a-Fix,which we have here. Installed it and ran the POLICIES SCANNER only. It came back with two HKEY's saying Restrictive Policies.I was a little afraid but, hit the GO button and I guess it restored the default policies, because now I have full access to the Auto Update.Do you know of or have ever used this tool. It seems to restore or reapply what is missing or defective. Sorry it took so long to get back to you but working evenings, leaves me with little time. I want to Thank You for responding to my query and appreciate Your Help.

Yup dial-a-fix is a godsend when it comes to troubleshooting weird issues. So it does sound like policies were set somehow and that was the problem. Great to hear you were able to get it resolved!! :)

Hey Valhallis! Yes it was a Trojan who did me in. Got that under control also. I'm glad someone knows about this tool, cause not very many know about it. Now I can use and recommend it. Thankx for your help and see you around the forum.
