cannot connect desktop xp pro wirelessly to internet

Hi all,

I am certain this is an easy one but not for me.
I installed new motherboard, cpu etc.. and had to deal with getting XP Pro to work again which with the help of this group I finally did.
Now I would like to connect to the internet. My connection is cable access via a wireless router. D-Link, model DIR615. I connect to the router fine but cannot access the internet.
My laptop runs on Vista and getting on the internet wirelessly is no problem so that rules out router issues.
Even though I used the method outlined in a Langa letter on how to restore XP without reinstalling the whole thing some info was lost. As an example my wireless keyboard/mouse do not work either.

For the wireless keyboard and mouse, you will have to get the drivers from the CD that came with the item, or download them from the net.

Are you using the Windows Wireless connection programme, or one that came with your wireless reciever?

I tried both. Then I went online to D-link and messed around some more. The IP addresses are different between the 2 computers and the one that cannot connect does not have a default IP.
After reading more it appears I need to connect the computer up 1st with a cable and then I can set the modem up with the computer. After that it should work wirelessly.
I will try that next when I can dig a cable out.
