I have a USR 8054 router, and I am trying to set up a static IP on my computer with a couple of wireless cards. I have tried on two cards to set up static IP's. I made sure that the static IP's are outside of the DHCP range, and I set the default gateway to the windows default 255.255.255.0. I set the default gateway to the router's address, and the DNS to the router's address, I have not been able to connect to the internet, I always get a timeout error. This is happening on two different wireless cards, on two seperate computers, and I have set up static IP's for a couple other cards this way, and it has worked just fine. I greatly appreciate any help.

And the reason for not setting it up as auto config for both ip and dns?

Sorry, I have had problems with the DHCP on my router, and for whatever reason it needs to be reset frequently if I use the auto config. I think the router just doesn't fully release the ip before re-assigning it to another computer. Before I started using static IP's I was having to reset the router daily just to get an IP assigned.

Did you turn off the modem , then the router ....wait for a few, then turn on the modem and wait a minute or two and turn of the router? (With the computers set to auto?)

I did reset the modem, and then the router with the computers on auto, and then it would work for a couple days before having to be reset again. I just got tired of reseting everything every couple of days, so I just assigned every one static IP's, and it works just fine. Then a couple of days ago, I went to add a couple more computers with static IP's, and I have not been able to set up the static IP's, I can connect to the router, and log into the router, but not to the modem, nor can I access the internet. I just don't want to start having problems again with the DHCP.

set everything except the ip address the same as the other computers ...then if their ip address is 192.168.0.101 / 192.168.0.102 .....assign up to .0.110.

Make sure they are all in the same "workgroup" and have the same gateway and dns.

And you might want to do a firmware update on the router.

Thanks for your help, for whatever reason, I went to add another computer, and it allowed me to set up a static IP on that one, so I went back to the other two that didn't work, and it worked just fine. I don't know what happened, or what caused it to work, but it is working just fine now. Thanks again.
