    Hello:
Running a brand new Dell computer with XP, sp1...was connected to internet without difficulty for several weeks. Suddenly, cannot connect. Cannot connect in safe mode either.

Went thru troubleshooting with ISP...all settings are correct. They can ping in to my computer but i cannot ping out. They even came out, changed all the settings and even changed the modem without effect.

Ran Norton anti-virus....all clear. Obviously I am unable to connect to internet to run any online scans.

After going thru it with dell technician, their ultimate suggestion is to reformat the hard drive...haven't done that yet....looking for another solution.

Is it possible that it is a virus even though it doesn't show on Norton?
    Thanks!

yes it is possible even tho norton says its clean some virus progs may detect one, go to the spyware forum and read the stickey called:

READ ME FIRST BEFORE ASKING FOR SUPPORT: Basic Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal

do all the steps you can and you can say its probably not a virus ect.

    Thanks!
I did download all of the tools onto a disc...but since I can't get online, won't be able to do the online scans. But, I appreciate your thoughts!
