Cannot connect to the internet?

I can get a signal and it says that the internet is connected but when i try to pull up the web it says that the website cannot be displayed and asks for you to diagnose the problem. What can be the problem and how can it be resolved? Any help would be greatly appreciated?

dialup or broadband? If broadband, is it dsl, cable or sattelite? Is there a router involved? What browser are you using? Have you tried a different browser?

ok well its dsl broadband and yes there is a router but that is irrelevent because i have two other machines that are connected and i can surf the web without a problem. Also im using internet explorer. I have tried connected an external net card and it says that the access point can be found but no internet.

Not really. I currently have 7 computers in my home and from time to time one or two of them lose internet connection. I have no idea why but it does happen. I reset the router by powering down. Then it again assigns addresses and all the computers are happy.
Dsl modems on the other hand, usually act as routers. Does yours? Or have you set the modem to bridged mode and let the router do the address assignments?
