I am trying to copy a bunch of files to a flash drive, JPGs actually about 300 photos.

I select all the files I want copied, select the destination (flashdrive) and select paste.

It starts out allright but after 1/3 to 1/2 of the way through I get an error saying "the destination folder cannot be created"

I've tried moving, coping, another computer, dragging and I cannot copy all the files over onto the flashdrive. I also tried another flashdrive.

The drive is no where near full.

    I give up any ideas?

    Thank you

If you are with Vista select all the files you will move right click the files and click ""send to" then select the flash drive and it will do it for you.

It could be something like a long or non-standard character filename causing the problem. Maybe, try zipping them up into one file and copying that to the flash would work.

    Hi guys,

Thanks for your suggestions but no matter how I tried, copy/paste/move/send to etc etc, Windows XP would not let me copy all the files. I tried in section, 50 at a time nope. From one directory to another on the HDD was no problem.

I tried a couple flashdrives and memory cards, all had the same issue.

The name was the same syntax for all eg 20081231_xxx.jpg. It would stop on a file a different one every time. Even if I deleted the file I received the error on, it would merely give me the error on another.

I finally got them copied but had to use a third party software, in this case Fastcopy. Worked just fine.

Who knows, just another Windowism which nobody can explain...

    Thanks again

The flash drive is probably formatted as Fat32. Fat32 will choke on anything 4GB and up.
Have you tried moving smaller batches of files over rather than 300 photos?

    Hi plodr,

They are resized JPGs (1024x680ish) so they are actually quite small physically.

I did try in smaller batches but still no joy no I resorted to the third party software way and it worked fine.

    Thanks anyways.

Maybe I'll try formatting NTFS (if I can) and see what happens
