Cannot Copy Read Only Files

I copied files of various types (.txt, .jpg., .exe) from my PC to a Phillips CD-RW 4-12X 700 MB disk. When I look at the file properties while they are still on the CD drive, they are read-only. I inserted the CD-RW disk into a notebook PC and copied them onto that computer. After modifying the files on the notebook, I attempt to copy them back to the same or a blank CD-RW disk. I get an error message stating that the copied files are read only and access is denied (even though I have administrator privileges). I uncheck the read only box in Properties but that doesn't help. Any ideas?

How are you copying them exactly?

    In Windows Explorer, Edit, Copy.

CD Writing Tasks - Files Ready to be copied to the CD

    Write these files to CD

    CD Writing Wizard

    Finish.

    THANKS.

I don't know if this makes any difference, but when I burn a CD using XP's built in burning tool, I usually select the files I want to burn, copy them to their own folder, open the folder, Edit > Select All, right-click > Send To > E: CD Drive. I make sure there's a blank in the drive before clicking Edit, and then I click on the balloon that pops up by the clock, and I follow the prompts. But, then again, I try to not use XP's built-in burning all that much. I prefer Nero or CD BurnerXP; not as convenient, but alot more reliable and problem free....

I tried your first suggestion but had no further success.

I then used CD BurnerXP, v 3.0.116 but got an error message:
There are no compatible CDR drives reported. Some older CDR drives are not currently supported.

I'll try an older version of CD BurnerXP. If that doesn't work, I'll try Nero.

    Thanks for the suggestions.

    Hi

To utilize packet writing ( UDF ) as in drag and drop on your CDRW you will need packet writing capable software as in Nero InCD or Roxio DragtoDisc to do this, they format a CDRW in a such a way that you can use CDRWs or DVDRWs like you would a floppy or USB pen, in which you can edit and recopy files back to CDRW.

Using a CDRW and burning the data normally will make the CDRW act like a normal CDR, apart from you can erase or re-format the CDRW, but what you cannot do is to copy the data back as the CD will be closed to new data.
