Cannot Defrag,Help

Well I'm back again,I upgraded to XP Pro from Me ( a clean install ) all works very well. But I want to Defrag and it gets to 1% and just hangs there,it will not defrag. I've tried to do it in safe mode,but it still hangs at 1%. What's up with this.

go through your task manager(control+alt+delete) and highlight & "end task" on everything EXCEPT "explorer" & "systray"

Then try defragging, after your done restart the PC

This morning I tried to run it again and it still hung up at 1% ( tried all that you guys told me to do ). Well I left it running and I went into my files and looking at DiskCleanup,,, just getting use to XP Pro. I know I shouldn't do anything when Defrag is running,but all that clicking around and looking must have kick Defrag in the butt,,,,,,,,it's working now and just finishing defraging.....Wooooohooooooooooooooo.

It might just have taken a while, downloading a lot tends to make for a bigger job...

My XP defragger stays on 1% for a long time too. Depending on how much you download, you can defrag on a weekly, bi-weekly, etc. basis... The more often you do it, the faster things go on your computer.

Doing disk cleanup clears a lot of stuff, too. Might make for a faster defrag. But in general it just takes a while.
