Cannot delete...access denied

I did a search for this and didn't find anything, so pardon me if this has been answered before.
I get the cannot delete...access is denied, make sure disk not full or write protected and file not in use message mostly when trying to delete wav or mp3 files from my hard disk. I know I can go to safe mode and delete them, but this is getting tiresome.
Is there a free, little proggy out there that can help me?
