Cannot delete files?

Hi there. My computer is running just fine but whenever I try to delete files, it takes a very long time and completely slows down my computer to the point that I cannot open anything else up for at least 5 minutes. Sometimes, after it tries to delete items, an error comes up saying "data error (cyclic redundancy check) Anyone have any ideas on what is wrong or what I should do? I have done the complete check for viruses and spyware as told to by majorgeeks.com, but it has not helped at all. Thanks.
