cannot delete .mkv files

Hi, my wife has an issue with some .MKV files she downloaded. She's running Windows 7 x64. The .mkv files in question can not be deleted, moved or renamed. They can be copied and their copies then become the same (unmovable etc). Whenever we try to delete etc we get the message that the file is open in windows explorer and can not be done. I have booted in safe mode and run Avast full scan, Spybot, SuperAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-malware - all came up clean. Again tried to delete in safe mode and didn't work.

Also, the files work normally (they play in VLC player with no problem) but they can't be moved or edited in any way that I can figure out.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Try Unlocker. You can also try Move on Boot which will delete the files on reboot.

 

Also, MBAM has FILE ASSASSIN under the MORE TOOLS tab . I've used it many times .

 

OK so I gave Unlocker a go. It doesn't seem to work at all. The program doesn't open. I found a tutorial on using the program and some of the features which it's supposed to have don't appear on the system at all such as Unlocker appearing in the Right-Click menu.

Also, I did think of using file assasin but my wife insists she wants to keep the files but wants to move them for the sake of tidyness...

 

Did you get the 64 bit version? Maybe you have to run the installer as Administrator?

Be aware to skip toolbar installation during install and penalty of 30 seconds wait for saying No.
