Acronis failed a clone operation and corrupted my registry. Using BartPE to replace corrupt registry files (sam, security, software, default from system restore folder) but absolutely cannot touch the config/system file. I just get an error message that the file is corrupt and unreadable. I cant rename, overwrite, or delete. Any thoughts on how I can get rid of this file and replace? System in questions is running WinXP. thanks for your time.

Not sure if this would work but you could try burning a Puppy Linux iso and see if that would delete it. If not, try running Chkdsk and then a delete. I am not sure if your BartPE has that command but you can also use Recovery Console from a XP install disk or use an iso of Recovery Console.

thanks for your suggestion - am on it. It was my train of thought that using Linux to try delete might work. I'll give you news!

argggg - Puppy Linux cannot touch the file either.... again, cant delete, overwrite, or rename. I will run a chkdsk thru BartPE and see what that renders.
