    Hey,

I'm having trouble setting up a shared printer connection on a Laptop using a home network service. I've managed to set it up on a desktop with no problems, but the laptop does not seem to detect the printer, nor the other 2 computers in the workgroup.

All computer are running XP, and are on a WPA-secured wireless connection which is working well. I haven't tried to ping the laptop through the desktops or vice versa, but can do so upon request.

Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

Try to ping both ways ...then post your ipconfig ....
    start / run / cmd / (type) ipconfig /all

Ok, I cannot ping the laptop from either of the desktops. I CAN however ping both desktops with the laptop. Here is the IPConfig from the laptop:

Not seeing the desktop configuration, I am assuming that desktops are also using the same gateway and subnet ...(and reporting ip addresses in the 192.168.1.10x range) ...which would lead me to think that the laptop is not in the same "workgroup" as the desktops.

The desktops are indeed using the same gateway and subnets, using the IPs of 192.168.1.100 and 192.168.1.101 respectively. The workgroup was the first thing I checked upon encountering the problem, and it is set to the same as the desktops.

What protocols and clients are configured in the laptop local connection (file and print sharing ...tcp/ip ...client for windows network ...etc?)

Welcome to the wonders of windows networking lol

The following are configured in the laptop local connection:
    - Client for Microsoft Networks
    - File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks
    - QoS Packet Scheduler
    - Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) (set to automatically detect both the IP and DNS server address)

I've also disabled the 1394 Connection, if it makes any difference. It's my understanding that it has to do with firewire connections and not anything to do with the wireless LAN.

    Continued help is MUCH appreciated.

Everything listed there is looking good. The network itself doesn't seem to be a problem, since I have complete access to the internet through the secured connection, and can ping both desktops on the network without problem.

    I'm stumped.

One other thing to try: on all computers, create an exact same account (default or something with the exact same password) then log into that account at least once on all ....see if you can then share.

    Jumping in late here but,
Have you added your LAN to the trusted zone on your laptop's firewall?
That's what the ping results would indicate.
