cannot download anything with SP2

hi peeps,
my info:
win xp prof. vers. 2002
sp2
intel pentium 4
cpu: 2.66GHz
512 MB Ram

reinstalled win xp prof lately and installed sp2. have zonealarm security suite, norton antivirus prof 2003.
i simply cannot download anything from internet explorer. it shows "u r not authorized to view this page". ive heard about this problem earlier but cannot find the thread. on google the search gives me all possible threads with problems downloading the actuall sp2 and not downloading with sp2 and i am also having problems recieving and sending with outlook express which i guess is somehow connected with this problem.
pls heeeeeeeelp (but keep in mind im an advanced newbie)

 

what are your security settings at? if they are too high, it'll block almost everything.

 

Incase you didn't know....SP 2 comes with the new built in windows firewall!! It is turned on by default whenever you install SP 2!!

Being that you already have 2 other security applications (which is not really recommended, cause they will clash) I would say that your firewall(s) are fighting against one another!! I would recommend you downsize to one anti virus and one firewall!! Most people prefer a third party firewall over the windows forewall, so personally I would disable the windows firewall!!!!

Let me know if you need directions to do that!!!!

Just incase you are confused....It is HIGHLY recommended to have more than one SPYWARE program, but only have ONE AV and firewall!!!!

ok thanx peeps. U saved my life . i turned off my zone alarm and it started working again. which firewall do u think is more safe (ie which one should i keep?)? zonealarm or the windows security suite?

 

Personally...I've always used Norton Firewall, so I couldn't tell you which is better than the other!! It seem to be the general consensus that third party software firewalls (like Norton, Zone Alarm, McAfee, etc.) are better than the windows firewall, but as far as which one is the best...everybody has their own opinion!! If I were in your shoes...I would keep the Zone Alarm!!

But feel free to post another thread in the software forum, about what people think is the best one, i'm sure you will get multiple responses!! There are many free ones out there as well as those that cost money!!
