cannot find hardware device (code 41)

I have a external USB DVD drive (plug and play) that I'm trying to hook up. I am getting this error.....windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device (code 41). I looked in the device manager and it has a yellow exclamation mark next to my device. I tried to update the driver(didn't work), I scanned for hardware(didn't work), I uninstalled it(didn't work), I tried the add hardware wizard(didn't work) and I followed some threads from Majorgeeks to delete the "UpperFilters" and "LowerFilters". When I try to delete the UpperFilters and/or LowerFilters, It does not show me that option. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E968-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
There is no listing for Upper or LowerFilters to delete! I have an older computer which is a Dell Dimension 8200 Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 SP3. If anyone could me with this issue, that would be great! Thank you for your time! I hope I gave you enough info!

I tried your link, but that didn't work. It did not show my device, so I could not rename it.

so it shows in device manager but not in disk management...and in device manager it has a yellow exclaimation mark on it...eh...that means the driver for the device is not installed...I wonder if you went to the website of your usb drive if they would have a driver for it?

 

When I uninstall this device from Device Manager than restart my computer, It says it found new hardware for my device but it still does not show.
I tried going to the website for my USB device but can't find a driver to download.
